Recognition of qualifications under German basic law (Grundgesetz)
The Office of the University Registrar only verifies university entrance qualifications that have been submitted within the scope of German basic law (Grundgesetz) as part of the admission and/or registration process i.e., when registering by post, using officially certified hard-copy certificates.
Recognition of certificates for German citizens who acquired their university entrance qualification abroad
The Office of the University Registrar, Unit 1, verifies qualifications belonging to German applicants that were issued by international institutions, within the framework of the admission and/or registration process. In case of doubt, the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle für den Freistaat Bayern (Qualification Recognition Office for the Free State of Bavaria) can be consulted.
Decisions made by the relevant authorities in other German states are recognized, unless there is a significant violation of a particular agreement of the Standing Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs.
EU/EEA and non-EU applicants who have acquired their qualifications abroad
The International Office verifies the entrance qualifications of EU/EEA and non-EU applicants that were issued by international institutions, as part of the admission and/or registration process. In case of doubt, the Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle für den Freistaat Bayern (Qualification Recognition Office for the Free State of Bavaria) can be consulted.
